Inside Out

I’m Trella. A scrub. I live in the lower levels of Inside with all the other scrubs. We’re the ones who clean the pipes and air ducts that crisscross our insular world and keep us all alive.

Scrubbing is mindless busy work that prevents us from rioting or revolting, or something. The nine families that rule our world from the spacious upper levels also send the Population Control Police to keep the scrubs in line and recycle the dissenters. They don’t control the population - just the opposite. The Pop Cops want us to breed until we’ve filled every square inch of the lower levels. And no one knows why. Rumor has it there is a gateway somewhere to a world Outside. And a new prophet called Broken Man claims to have hidden some disks that reveal the location of this gateway—in a place that only I can reach. The search runs me into an Upper named Riley, an intriguing guy with the most incredible blue eyes. But the Pop Cops are still after the disks, and I’ve got to move fast. If I’m caught, I’ll be sent to the Chomper…and so will anyone who helped me. Friends. Former enemies. Maybe even Riley. The Pop Cops will stop at nothing to hide the truth about Inside…

SCRUBS

You’re a nobody. You don’t have family and your only choice in life is to work in the lower levels and maintain the upper levels. You live with thousands of others scrubs in small spaces and have no privacy. As a scrub, you accept this life.

UPPERS

Your family is generally small. You too work to maintain Inside, however assignments range from medical to electrical duties. Uppers don’t interact with scrubs and vice versa. You live in more spacious accommodations and mainly keep to yourself.

POP COPS

You maintain the peace and order of Inside. You must be obeyed at all times. Anyone who does not follow your orders will face serious consequences. You have the power to assign others any task you see fit, and to feed any who don't follow orders to the Chomper.
